Long Lost Liz

Sharon's friend, Liz, a Kenyan-American who went to boarding school with Sharon, spent this last weekend with us here in the city. It was bitterly cold this weekend, no snow but horrid wind with a biting sting. Ironically, we ended up walking 80 to 100 blocks over the weekend.

First, Friday afternoon we took a free tour of the United Nations through our student/friend Alex who works there. Afterwards the four of us went out for some Japanese food. Then we attended a new Messianic Synagogue on the East Side called Shuvah Israel. We met up with two other student-friends, Jeff and Maureen, and found some shelter from the elements at a Wendy's.

Saturday, we had a late breakfast and then took Liz to Greenwich Village and the NYU area. By the time we made it to Times Square it was already evening. We then went to the top of the Marriot and sat in their restaurant that slowly turns 360 degress during a 60 minute span. Nice view, expensive drinks. We then headed down for some Indian food on the East Side. Over the weekend we got to see Liz's life in pictures and video having just visited Kenya and family.

Blizzard of '06

Well, we had a bit of snow this past weekend in the Northeast. Sharon and I were in Mount Holly, New Jersey for the weekend visiting our friend Denise from Nyack College.
We got to experience a good foot of snow. Click on the photos for a close-up.
We made a Snow Sphinx and tried to throw some snowballs but the snow was like powder. It would hardly stick together. Perfect for skiiing or sledding.

New York though had over two feet. This morning we took our cart to the neighborhood store to buy groceries and do laundry. It was like being a sled dog in the Arctic.

Pulling through the mud, ice, slush, and several feet high piles of snow in our Brooklyn neighborhood, we successfully made it there and back with clean clothes and food for tonight.
