Yesterday was a mixed bag of tricks. We were pretty excited about seeing Bruce Dill, an old friend of mine from the BSU days at FSU. He was in town for the day and so we were going to meet up with him after church in Times Square. Well, Sharon and I went to church in the morning to attend the Bible study. Afterwards, we both went to the bathroom in different parts of the church and we somehow misplaced each other. We also seemed to have gotten our wires crossed because Sharon headed home and I went upstairs for the worship service. After 15 or so minutes I noticed that Sharon wasn't there and she had already walked home. She also was confused that I wasn't at home. Some of the people at the church started to get worried but I told them she'd be fine--I just had to figure out where she was. So to make a long story short, I ended up walking home, after she left a message on the cell phone. So that ended well. We lost each other but then we found each other.
But the "cell phone", that story continues in a second. Another weird thing happened...Sharon awoke yesterday with a "hamster kind of feeling". The left side of her face started swelling near her ear and throat. (She finally found a doctor who would see her today after about 20 doctors said no...don't you love the HMO system.) So throughout the day the swelling would ebb and flow between all kinds of shape shifting facial expressions.
So we then decide to head over to the city to see Bruce as planned after this weird church game of hide and seek. Along the way we stop off at the Pavonia Mall because Sharon needs some shoes and a whopee cushion. (The whopee cushion is for a scholarly presentation on Greek linguistics at the Society of Biblical Literature.) At the mall, when we werein Kohls, I found two pairs of shoes to buy and Sharon found none (surprise, surprise), but much more dire is the disappearance of our cell phone. Somewhere from the mall entrance, i had dropped/lost the phone (our only phone). So we spent the next hour looking, asking, and visiting two different lost and founds. We calledl and left a message on our cell phone three or four times. But to no avail.
We left the mall and headed to Times Square to find Bruce. We had a great time catching up and walking around a bit. We stopped at the Hard Rock Cafe to show him the American Rock-n-Roll temple. We also showed him Toys-R-Us with its humongous lego land and life-size T-Rex. Bruce bought us dinner at the Heartland Brewery as we continued to watch Sharon's left chipmunk cheek. Afterwards, we stopped at Starbucks for some sipping.
Epilouge: We bid Bruce good bye in the Times Square rain. Sharon is currently at the doctor's office. The phone is officially lost and we have ordered another one.
A cell phone lost, a friend found, and the tension of living in a world of Lost and Found.
